History of Flynn Lumber

Flynn Lumber and Supply Company was established in the fall of 1945 when Raymond Flynn returned to Gladwin from serving as a Sergeant in World War II.   Ray and his brother Jim, formed a partnership and the business began.

Ray's business experience came from his many years employment at Goldberg’s Department Store, where he worked as teenager.  The lumber and supply business was not totally new to the brothers since their father Frank Flynn had been in partnership with Wolohan in a local coal and lumber supply.  That business was eventually bought out by the Wicks Company and moved out of town.

The business started while sharing space with a veterinarian and using the old hose tower building from the fire department.

Flynn Lumber and Supply Company grew and expanded in that tight location until 1969 when the location was bought to use as a local bank which is now the location of National City Bank in Gladwin.  About 1970 the Flynn brothers dissolved the partnership and Ray ran the business with his wife Margaret.  At that time a new location was established on 2465 W M-61, one mile east of Gladwin,  where it continues to grow today.  Tim Flynn became President of the company in 1988 and continues directing the business.

Flynn Lumber is a great success story.  A family business in a small town, Flynn Lumber continues to serve the community from a modern showroom and warehouse.  Flynn Lumber contributes to several

community efforts, school programs, sports, Habitat For Humanity and many other clubs and organizations.
